Being Smart Works for Stockport students

Female students from Stockport high schools got the new year off to a cracking start at a special free event called Smart Works x State Talking.

On a Friday morning, towards the end of January, the teenagers were invited to Edgeley Park, home of Stockport County FC.

Once settled down inside, the students heard from personal branding and networking expert Isobelle Panton from The Overlap about how it’s never too early to start thinking about their individual brand and how that relates to their career.

offering women free interview-appropriate clothing and interview preparation help, then delivered a session on how they can support students when they’re looking for their first jobs.

Olivia Hanvey, Stockport County’s commercial operations director, then rounded off the morning with tales of her hard won journey to the top in what is very much a male dominated world, from a northern state school and without a university education.

Cara Mahon, engagement manager, Smart Works in Stockport, said: “The students were so engaged, with lots of questions about our support

“We really want to work closer with schools and colleges to make sure their students can be supported by Smart Works on their journey into the world of work, so thank you State Talking for this opportunity.”
