StateTalking recently partnered with Ricardo Plc to bring a week-long Green Careers event to Year 7 students at Hazel Grove High School. The initiative aimed to introduce young people to careers that make a real difference in tackling climate change and protecting the environment.
Throughout the week, professionals from Ricardo’s Water, Air Quality, and Energy & Carbon Regulation teams shared insights into their careers, showing students the exciting and varied opportunities in environmental fields.
Bruce, from Ricardo’s Water team, gave students a glimpse into the practical side of his work—flying drones, driving boats, and fishing—as part of his efforts to monitor and improve water quality. Jekabs, an Air Quality Consultant, highlighted how air pollution impacts health and why subjects like Geography can lead to careers that make a difference. James, from Ricardo’s Energy and Carbon Regulation team, spoke about the UK’s decarbonisation journey, sharing how his work has taken him across Europe to develop impactful environmental policies.
The team at Ricardo said“We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope we’ve inspired a few students to consider a career where they can make a positive impact on the environment.”
At StateTalking Manchester, we’re committed to bringing relatable role models into state schools, showing young people what’s possible when they leave school. If you’re a professional who wants to share your career journey, or a school looking to bring industry speakers into the classroom, we’d love to hear from you!
