A STEM Week visit from a university science student led to a one of a kind class for a group of Manchester primary school children.
When Sara Alnasir Kassam dropped into St Kentigern’s in Fallowfield, she had a number of tricks up her sleeve to engage students in what turned out to be a very memorable session.
Pupils loved the Superlab comics that Sara brought along with her, which help to bring biomedical sciences to life. Produced by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), each issue is packed with comic strips, games and activities that explore how to diagnose and treat illness.
The students then took part in a hands on activity about blood groups, where their fine motor skills were put to the test using lab style droppers.
Each went home with their own comic and other IBMS merch.
Speaking on LinkedIn, Sara, a final year biomedical science undergrad at Salford University. said: “Thank you StateTalking for the amazing opportunity to speak to students at St Kentigern’s.
“And thank you Institute of Biomedical Science for providing the amazing merchandise and the Superlab comics specifically, which were a huge hit with the students.”
