When pupils at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Levenshulme met Timi Adefolu, they learned that working in the construction industry is not just about bricklaying.
The recent law graduate, now an assistant consultant at construction giant Mace, talked to the Manchester students about the wide variety of careers in the industry.
Timi attended a state school in Newham, East London, before coming up north to study law at Manchester University.
As a steering committee member of the Ethnic Diversity at Mace (EDaM) group, speaking to young people and trying to change perceptions around the industry is a key part of her role.
Timi said: “One of our core pillars is outreach – going into schools to raise awareness about the construction industry and inspire young people to think about the wide range of roles it offers, especially in state schools where exposure to these opportunities can be limited.
“It was such a joy to engage with the children, spark their curiosity, and get them thinking early on about the possibilities a career in construction can offer.
“Here’s to making a difference, one school visit at a time.”
